Which cpu is the best for rendering?

I render heavy files so I was wondering what cpu would be good? I was thinking of a sli gtx1080.

the best CPU for rendering for "consumers" is the 2990wx.

also gtx 1080 is not a CPU and isnt even the fastest GPU (if you didnt know, the gtx 1080 is a GPU)

the fastest GPU probably will have to go to the Titan V or Titan RTX

It would also depend. If I recall correctly, some of the i9s can challenge a 2990WX due to the presence of an iGPU, which can help accelerate rendering tasks in Adobe.

Depends on the software, generally it should be the 2990WX but if a program can't use all the cores then the I9 9900K can be faster

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

that is very true.  generally speaking either the 9900k or 2990wx will be regarded as the fastest. 9900k in clockspeed rendering and where it can use the iGPU and 2990wx in core rendering, and 9980xe in AVX workloads

also you can technically buy EPYC and XEONs as consumers. and that is when you can drag in the 2 socket 56 or 64 core systems

What’s being rendered? Not everything is the same. Also need a budget and what hardware is needed. Also what programs assuming you wanted multiple cards that doesn’t leave many.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

The way I worded things were off. I meant to say that, I was thinking of a setup with sli gtx 1080 as a gpu or something better.

I am studying architecture so I use 3dmax, lumion, revit, autocad, all adobe programs, rhino, sketchup, etc. I render alot of 3D and also 2d in photoshop or other programs. I have many files open and have multiply renderings going on but tends to lag my computer so I was trying to get some options. I don't really have a set budget as of right now.

  • 4 weeks later...

for arch-viz you will have to chose if you are using a gpu or a cpu based rendering solution. From the programs you listed i assume it will be a cpu based rendering solution.

  • 6-8 core or more core cpu.
  • 32GB of ram will probably be enough, for the 64 tabs f chrome 3 huge photoshop files for huge prints and a heavy revit file while doing some stuff in rhino and grasshopper.
  • gtx 1070 an up. fr these programs yo dont need an sli setup.
