according to the manual for that board the Q-code 00 isnt used.

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/X99-A/E10088_X99-A_UG_V3_U_for_web_only.pdf

However, if the old CPU works and the new one doesnt, you can make sure the BIOS is up to date. If that still doesnt fix it, then it sounds like a dead CPU.

From what I have found  00 is a CPU error.

Well if you were to go to the website, the mb supports this cpu so it isnt compatibility issue. Do you think clearing CMOS can fix this? People tell me this is clearly a dead cpu.

I am running on latest bios, yes. The seller told me to send it directly to Der8auer for testing. If it works i will have to pay shipping and testing.

lol, why would you send it to Derbaur? Sounds like the guy is shooting a bunch of fluff up your bum. I would file a claim with Ebay since the product does not work as advertised and the seller is refusing to provide service or a satisfactory resolution.

maybe not necessarily a scam, but definitely sounds like a dead CPU since everything works just fine with the old CPU. Only change was the CPU.

The only question is, should i send it? I was thinking that if i send it, it works there and then i pay him for the test, i get it back and it still does 00... Maybe send MB and CPU and see what happens?

Idk dude, it seems scetchy... Der8auer has other things to do than testing old hardware.

It looks like the seller is being irresponsible.

He/she is selling a possibly faulty product, and he is telling to you bring to someone else to troubleshoot it.

Anyways, are you actually able to access the BIOS with your i7-6950X installed?

The i7-6950X is supported on this motherboard, but requires a much later BIOS version -- version 3004.

The X99-A was first released with Haswell-E (5000 series).

The X99-A II is a refresh of the original X99-A, and was released with Broadwell-E (6000 series).

No, it doesnt post at all. I am running the latest bios from this year, 3902 i think it was. I have not cleared the CMOS yet, i will tomorrow. By the way, the product is described as 100% working. The guy also told me the address of caseking.de i mean it seems too legit... I will find out if cmos and ram actually make a difference... I am guessing swapping cpus dont just work out of the box.

If you can 100% confirm BIOS 3902 is on the board, then it could be a faulty CPU.

I would also recommend that you inspect the CPU socket for any bent pins, too.

Also, your motherboard has the USB BIOS Flashback feature.

You can re-flash the BIOS with a USB stick (without RAM or CPU installed...if you wanted).

SUPER handy feature.

I have an old cpu that works on this mobo. I7 5820k. I just needed more cores. So i flash the bios using the EZ update and got this 6950x cuz it is compatible with my mb. So no, the mobo is not the culprit. There are no bent pins, or else my old cpu wont work when i swap it back in.

One possibility is having CPU tested at local repair shop. Some cost, but you will have proof of what is happening .

Just a suggestion

Yes, that is a good suggestion. I can take do that tomorrow in fact, cuz I already started an ebay refund. I am waiting for the seller to respond.

Yeah CPU is dead.

Bought a 5960X a while ago. Worked for 30min although it was detected as a Xeon 2603 v3 with a gronked IMC. Was listed as for parts or not working so can't complain really.

After it died it the post LED showed 00. Popped 5820K back in and it was alright. Just remember to reset BIOS before and after.

If you need more cores get a Xeon. Zero reason to buy Broadwell-E.

Well i just got a good offer on it, and no im not buying a Xeon cuz I do need these cores to be high clock speed.

However this CPU was NOT listed as "for parts or not working", it was listed as USED and the description said, it was 100% functional.

So i bid on it and won and then the CPU didn't work when i installed it.

Alright clam down it was just a suggestion.

Just reset BIOS and reboot. If you're on the right BIOS it shouldn't have an issue making it past POST.

yes, that is what i did.

I swapped the ram sticks/took hdd and ssd out, changed GPU, and reset CMOS, and took battery off and on...

result: no post. Red LED on CPU and 00 q code. Everyone i asked told me it's a dead CPU. I came to the same conclusion. I can take it to a local store for testing, id pay them, but I don't expect that this CPU will ever post.
