Hey all, 

 

Here's my build please laugh away its all i could afford and had to make do... (im not joking about the thermal compound either)

Thermal Compound ..... Toothpaste (if you like that wait to see the case mod in the photos)

Case ................... Something my brother gave me

Monitor ............... Technika 32" LED TV

 

Runs League of legends at 1080p high quality graphics

im yet to try other games

At that point ..why use a case at all ?

its a very good start, i would recommend duct taping a cardboard box to the bottom of the case to reduce dust and probably help with the dust problem your going to have.

why bother with a case? Just put the mobo on top of some cardboard

case is quite simple really airflow, i tried without the case and temps were high now its in the dodgy case with fans creating decent flow its halved the temps

maybe all you need are those case fans, not the case. I used to have my desktop run with no case at all, only to buy one later because my mother said it was an eyesore.

At least it is a working computer? The only thing I'm not so sure about is using toothpaste as a CPU TIM while overclocking it.

Thermal compound is like $8 USD for some great Artic... I understand a cheap build, but Jesus man, toothpaste??

I hope you used minty fresh to drop those temps :D

Toothpaste is the best thermal, just make sure to replace monthly

I wasn't really referring to performance, though you will get much better performance with a thermal paste. I was more referring to longevity (toothpaste will dry out) and difficult to know what the ingredients will do to the metals of your CPU heat spreader and cooling block.

Just out of curiousity is there a particular reason you went with the am2 platform instead of the lga 775? I know its late now but Ive never seen am2 builds cost less than an lga 775 and they also perform worse. Also thats almost as ghetto as some of my builds... nice
