Ram compatibility with ryzen 2600

OK so I'm building a ryzen 2600+ MSI b450 tomahawk.

I looked up the QVL on MSI website and obviously, many 16gb 3200mhz kits which are available in the market aren't listed there.

I wanted to know whether I need to refer to the qvl even for 2666/2667 MHz speeds. Because there are a few 2666 modules which aren't there in the qvl.

So under/equal to what speed will a ram run at the rated speed even if its not listed in the qvl. Is it 2400 or is it 2666. Because both are non-oc speeds.

Thank you and please reply.

It should run at 2666 MHz, however I would recommend getting at something closer to 2933-3200 MHz. That is around the sweet spot for Ryzen, since it likes fast memory.

My question was will any 2666ram run at 2666mhz even if its not in the qvl.

I would definitely go for 3200 but those are either not available or not in the qvl.

QVLs exist but normally don't mean all that much. It matters a lot more for Server stuff, so any memory marked above 2933 should run at least at 2933 on 2nd Gen Ryzen. I don't think we've seen any instances of memory below 3200 not running at that on 2nd Gen. Beyond 3200 is a pure OC and down to the luck of the silicon.

2933/3000 is all you actually need for Ryzen 2nd Gen.

QVLs are nice and all but you shouldn't follow them to a T, otherwise your options will be severely limited. A manufacturer can't possibly test all SKUs of RAM currently availble on the market, and continue to test new ones as they come out. Just buy some RAM that you like.
