What kind of user would be interested in an IPS display?

turaco

Should I get an IPS display, or something else? I'm looking for a nice 1440p monitor (I game, but 144Hz isn't a must for me as I'd prefer something more affordable anyways) that I can look at without regretting my purchase xD

While this post isn't geared towards recommendations of specific models, I'd happily accept 9_9 Like, $400 or less.

I upgraded from a super cheap panel to an IPS, the colors are excellent. It really helps the atmosphere in games that have dark scenery for whatever reason, because the IPS panel has more rich color and deeper blacks. Granted, it was an ultra-wide, so a 1440p is probably more expensive than the $175 I paid

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

In any scenario where refresh rate and/or motion handling is not limited or prioritized, if it is limited, a good IPS panel should be the goto.

If you are looking for a recommendation, please provide your budget, use case and any critera you may have.

If you were getting a 60hz display, you want a 4k 60hz IPS display

IPS is just about always better than TN for daily use .

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

4k makes far more sense at this point than 1440p, because you'll never have to replace the 4k display and the price difference isn't too huge.

and you can always upscale games on the 4k panel until GPUs can push 4k easily.

Price difference is out of my budget. I'm almost perfectly happy with a 1080p at this point, don't think I'll be getting rid of my 1440p for years xD

I am very happy with my BENQ GW2765HT.

And it is much easier on the eyes than my horrid LG - 27MP37HQ-B.

Well where are you buying from if 4k displays are over budget?

Your choice then is a 4k 60hz IPS display

or 1440p 144hz IPS display

I got this nice lg ultra wide monitor at Costco for sub 200. It has ips and it has freesync. I was able to run it at 75hz so that's nice as well.

I don't know that it's good practice to recommend lower end 4k or 144Hz displays when you could recommend higher end 1440p panels. I have this set budget and request because I know that, unless I am paying a LOT of money, I will find better picture quality in a 1440p 60Hz monitor for $400 than a 144Hz monitor or even a 4k monitor at a similar price.

There is an argument to be made for the resolution, but picture quality really is more than just what resolution your display is, and I am aware of this. I am a picky customer. :(

Unless you are spending $1000 on a professional like 10-bit 100% adobe RGB 1440p display, the colors will be fine on the cheaper 4k IPS display, and the picture quality will be higher because 4k has about double the pixels as 1440p

Yeah, the colors will be "fine". That's not what I'm looking for. I also don't need $1000 for a decent monitor in that market xD

There's really either fine($), or professional($$$), the in between is not really worth it. Which seems to be what you're after.

Do you need 100% adobe RGB?

The in-between is worth it, if it is within my budget range.

No.

No.

Then most decent IPS displays will have 100% sRGB and be fairly comparable. The only other major difference may be brightness, but that doesn't matter in most cases either.

Which is why I'd highly suggest just getting the decent 4k display.

There's 3 other 4k displays that are around $400 and will all be slightly better than the $300 display, but I personally would not really buy them.

I'd go for a 40" 4k display...
