Intel 9th Gen Compatibility with Z370

If I purchase a Z370 board right now, will it be compatible with 9th gen intel when it arrives or will I have to install a bios update? Thanks in advance.

Probably the same as with the b350 boards and 2nd gen ryzen. Boards made after the release will be loaded with the latest BIOS from the factory and will indicate whether it's 9th gen ready or not. Otherwise (as in your case) you'll have to update the BIOS yourself before installing the 9th gen chip.

For at least a month, likely two, Z370 boards sold from retailers will still carry old BIOSes. Either ask the retailer to update the BIOS after you bought it (only possible if you buy from a shop directly), or borrow someone's Coffee Lake CPU for the BIOS update (Intel doesnt have equivalent to AMD's bootkit program), or buy Z390 boards instead.

Probably going to just buy the z390, what's the difference between 70 and 90 anyways? and will there be a price difference?

Z390 will get things Z370 doesnt have but H310, B360 and H370 do, for example WiFi (though a few dont support WiFi for some odd reason) and USB 3.1 Gen 2 built into the chipset.

 

Price difference will definitely be there. Expect something like $30-70 more on Z390 boards than Z370

0 because BIOS doesn't recognize the CPU and we don't know enough about it. For example if your Board will get a BIOS Update for that or not.

And something to keep in mind: 7nm Ryzen is on track and will be available next year.

Intel does not have their 10nm process ready, so new, better Chips will be far far away...

 

Right now the Price of the 8700 goes through the roof and is 100€ more than best price and also than the 2700x. So I'd recommend to wait, if possible and decide when all cards are on the table.

To be fair, Intel's 10nm is basically Ryzen's 7nm. They're not that far behind.

Yikes that kind of sucks for just wifi and things like that. I don't really care about usb 3.1 either. I honestly might just wait until around christmas time because the 9900k will probably be out of stock when it comes out anyways.

yea I know that I just don't really need ryzen, I currently have ryzen and would of been much happier with lets say an 8600k because all I do is gaming. I don't even keep my chrome open in the back and the only thing that runs while gaming is my discord.

No, you believe that because people are trying to tell you that it is that way, when Intel are the ones with all the security holes that people are not telling you about.

 

Ryzen is fine and wait for next year, until the 7nm Chips come and replace it then with a 7nm Ryzen. You don't have to worry too much about it!

The Differences aren't that great.

 

But the price of the Intel Chips are rizing right now so you have to pay like 400€ or so for a change to about the same performance with a less secure processor. 

Just look up Spectre, Meltdown and all the other stuff...

Why bring another iteration of 14nm??

 

You don't do another 14nm Plattform on Servers, when the 7nm part is right around the corner, that one has to live at least 9-12 Months, if not more!

You have to have long term availability as well...

 

Sorry, but you should watch at the facts and rumors, not believe strongly that Intel must be close by, when they delayed their 10nm process a couple of time while AMD is already sampling 7nm chips.

GPU as well as CPU! 7nm VEGA and 7nm EPYC already exist and are evaluated by Companies.

 

But you don't hear anything about Intel sampling 10nm/7nm Chips.

 

And 14nm is already 4 years old!

Supposedly Intel 10nm is Q4 2019, and thats for consumer grade products. Probably be longer than that for larger server chips as is typically the case.  So this isn't really wrong. 

 

I don't see what the point of a 12-16 Core 3700X would be though. I don't know how many years it'd be until we utilize all those cores.

Yes, it is, as AMD already has 7nm products, just doesn't mass produce them (yet), they are said to be released either in Q4/2018 or Q1 2019.

 

So that 10nm Intel is almost a year away, that's an enormously long time.

 

I don't see what the point of a 12-16 Core 3700X would be though. I don't know how many years it'd be until we utilize all those cores. 

I'd expect an increase in Performance and clockrate, regardless of the Cores as well.

Not just double the cores...

And of course lower power consumption/higher efficiency...

 

 

When AMD brings the 7nm Chips, we have a Bulldozer Situation - for intel This time, as AMD is on the better process node...
