Recommended Posts

Are you looking for comparison against some other VPN type? Pros/cons?

What use cases do you have that you want VPN?

What do you want to know?

PPTP is old and not secure. How many people are looking to VPN into your servers? Take a look at openVPN. It's free

PPTP doesn't offer any encryption whatsoever. You should be looking at L2TP, SSTP or OpenVPN as your options. OpenVPN would be my pick as I use it daily and it's easy enough to setup. All people need is the openvpn client, the profile and a username/password combo. A certificate is optional.

What network equipment do you have already?

Don't use PPTP.  I assume you don't have any business or Enterprise grade equipment either.

Usually a vendor based ssl client like anyconnect (Cisco asa) are pretty standard.  You can roll openvpn as per others if you have spare vm capacity or something.

If you have 2 or less concurrent users, openvpn access server is probably the easiest one to set up.
