2600X - Temps and Clocks normal???

Hello,

 

just upgraded my machine with a Ryzen 2600X and 16GB Flare X RAM:

Installation went fine; running with STOCK Cooler (Wraith Spire) and STOCK settings, No OC, at an ASUS Prime B350-Plus motherboard (BIOS is up to date).

Tested it with some gaming.

BF1:

Temp. 75°C

Clock. ~3.9GHz on all cores.

F1 2017: similar

 

Actually, i expected different results.

Like a bit lower temperature, but much higher frequencies, since it is the X model, so like 4.0-4.1 GHz.

 

Running with prime95 12 thread it even throttles to 3.75 GHz and 90°C+.

prime96 4 thread : 3.85 GHz and 90°C+

 

So please tell me, are these temps and clocks normal or not. And if not, did I just have bad luck with my CPU or do I have to tweak specific settings?

Yup.  Ryzen + isn't supposed to be insane over the first gen, stress testing will produce much higher than realistic results in real life applications, so the 90C is fine, because you will most likely be seeing the 75-80C much more often. EDIT: That's a really high overclock for the stock cooler with a 2nd gen chip, so that's probably why you are seeing such high temps when stress testing.

I left everything at stock settings/auto.

 

So HW Monitor tells me its ~1.41 V at idle/browser tasks.

 

Prime95 4threads: ~1.325 V

1,41 is probably wrong at idle, because that's insanely high

Auto voltage is just like that, even with first gen processors.

OP: set a manual voltage and frequency. I managed to increase my clocks without increasing my temperatures by setting a fixed voltage.

Looking at the Clocks its just idling in 4.1 GHz.

Maybe just a "buggy" spike on HW Monitor.

Most likely, else you got the golden of golden chips .

Anyway, I would try setting manual voltage and frequency in BIOS (and consider getting a better cooler to lower your gaming temperatures).

Get a better cooler. Besides, doesn't XFR boost only 1 core (aka I'm not sure if B350 boards support XFR 2, which I guess they do not).

UPDATE

 

Bought a new cooler, bequiet Pure Rock.

Temps went down 8-10°C and the 2600X boosts ~50MHz higher now.

Still lower than I expected, but maybe i just got a bad chip.

System is a bit quieter, though.

Well.. just got my 2600x. Holy shit. Playing far cry 3 (yes 3) it just boosted all the way to 4.5GHz STOCK. On a 120mm, 35 euro AIO.

Your temperatures, especially the Prime95 (90+ degrees) seem high, I get mine to hit mid 60s on AIDA64 so maybe there's a difference but there shouldn't be. In gaming (at least on BF1) I get about mid 50s and that's with my Kraken. With my Dark Rock 4 I would get about 5 to 10 degrees higher. I would watch your voltage, Zen+ has a habit of having spiking voltages which is not healthy for the chip, it's much safer to set a manual voltage for the chip. XFR2 can boost the frequency sometimes above the advertised range (4.2 GHz) but it does it one core at a time, it's often better and safer for the system to just manually overclock.

 

I can manually set my 2600X to 4.0 GHz at 1.23v, 4.1 GHz is about 1.30-1.35v I've read and 4.2 GHz is about 1.41ish but take these voltages with a pinch of salt because of silicon lottery and performances of different motherboards. Also, these manual overclock frequencies are all-core. You can try manually overclocking and see what that does to the temperatures. Also, a better cooling solution pays off normally.

It isn't.  Use HWiNFO for more accurate readings.
