I have some questions about Kodi

Is Kodi legal? I do not plan on using add-ons to get free stuff just sorting locally stored content.

 

Do files have to be a specific format?

Kodi is legal.

Certain plugins are however not legal. Just use the official repository and you are good  

 

About the format: Kodi will play about anything you can throw at it.

Kodi is 100% legal. While some Add-ons are not legal, there are a lot that are. I think it will play most file formats.
