£500 Gaming/Studying Laptop

Quido

Hello

I want to buy my son a laptop for Christmas so he can get away from my desktop. (Ha Ha so mean) The games he mainly plays are League of Legends and Fifa 14. I want them both to play at 60fps at good settings to keep him happy. Also for the studying side i want it to be fast, and for it to be able to open a few tabs and programs.

I have found 2 laptops

http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/s-series/s440/?sb=:000000F0:000003B0:

Thinking of giving the lenovo a micro hard drive to speed things up.

I know the GPU in the Sony is better but i dont know how much better.

Any other options would be very helpful

Thanks

I would go with the sony one if those are your two choices, a 740m can play pretty much every game just fine if I'm not mistaken...

It gets 92 fps on fifa 14 at ultra, and 45 on bf4 at low.

I would get the Lenovo one.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

I really like the size of the Lenovo one and i just checked that the GT 740M vastly superior. So is there any laptop with both of them combined?

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y410p/ I don't know if they have this where you live but they are having a sale on this, it has an i7 and a 755m and it's lenovo but I don't know if that's something you'd want because it's not an ultrabook.

They dont have this in the UK. It seemed like a really good deal.

I just found this. http://www.very.co.uk/hp-envy-m6-1302sa-amd-a10-processor-4gb-ram-750gb-hard-drive-156-inch-laptop-with-7670m-2gb-amd-dedicated-graphics-sparkling-black/1280294449.prd?aff=google&gclid=CMLM7sj_jrsCFSoUwwod0UsAlg&affsrc=acquisition&cm_mmc=google-_-PLA_Electricals-_-computers+laptops-_-atdvpZo2_29821782914

I dont know if this would be better as it is a quad core cpu and the CPU and GPU can crossfire.

Just because it's quad core doesn't mean it's really good.

On cpubenchmark it says it's equal to about an i3 3110m .

If he's just going to be playing league of legends/world of warcraft/fifa the first lenovo ultrabook you linked should do just fine, I just wasn't sure if he played any other games

the 740m can play even Crysis at acceptable frame rate although its got an Ultra book CPU so it will be held back that HP you just linked does pretty well the Z500 is also a good deal

What if i extended the budget to £600? What could i get for that? Would i be able to get an i7 and GT 750M or better?

I just searched youtube for benchmarks on that graphics card it looks good but I would not recommend a Dell my friends 15r tends to overheat and even shut down randomly due to heat he has returned it and the new one still does it

I really want to get this one as it can pretty much do everything he wants. Plus there is a 10% off code which would bring it to £520 but the overheating problems are worrying me. So is there any other ones with similar specs around the £530 price range?

I have found this website. I can get a 14inch laptop with a GTX 760M for under £600. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/SkyFireIII-14/

When you upgrade the ram to 4gb, get rid of the DVD RW and change to the i3 4000m (It now has hyperthreading) It seems like a very good deal.

Also this for £530 - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/cosmosII/

So would this be good?
