Vega 56 with a 500W PSU

I have a i5 3470 and a 500W Seasonic eco PSU.
Can I buy a Vega 56, undervolt it and be good to go? or should I replace this PSU.

I don't really have the budget to buy a new PSU so I would like to know what do you think.
BTW, the PSU is 4.5YO

Can the power supply deliver the entire 500w on the +12 V rail, because Vega 56 draws a lot of power from the 12 V rail, 300-400 W I think. And seeing the CPU is from an older generation, the power consumption might be a bit to high for a 500 w PSU to handle. I stick with a 1070 if you can find one at reasonable prices anyway.

you need a new PSU and a new CPU

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

The CPU is fine, and I have a 1440p monitor so its not a huge bottleneck, I don't need more than 60FPS.

Vega 56 takes 210W, and the BIOS won't let you go over 300W no matter what. with undervolt I think it is going to take aroud 190W, which is good for a 500W PSU, but it can jump to 300W for a few seconds at any time, and this is the scary part.

that card i've seen reviews and at stock under full load can pull closer to 250-260W on a consistent basis, it's quite a workout for a 500W PSU and that is assuming the 12v rail can even sustain the required wattage...one thing for sure you'll hear that poor thing complain...

Also, your CPU ain't enough for a GPU of that caliber.

it will depend but i suggest a better PSU, also a CPU upgrade.

a peak of 330W? that's fine, and it is probably pared with a more power hungry CPU.
This 3rd gen I5 is ok for me, I will upgrade to zen 2 when it comes out or Ryzen 5 1600 if it takes too long.

That is exactly what I am afraid of. Power jumps.
Well I decided to stay with that PSU for now and replace it in 2 months or so.
I will undervolt the Vega 56 and make the powerlimit -20% or something.
