Random desktop.ini file?

Make sure "Hide protected operating system files" is checked.  Desktop.ini has been in Windows for as long as I can remember.Untitled.png.b2615b10808c48619731c70d691b5f30.png

Hello there, just right now my was on the lockscreen. Which I found wierd because If I remember correctly, I left my pc on,(On as in, on a website, and my pc stays on the website unless I myself shut it down.) so I logged in and I found a random desktop.ini file which I don't remember creating, or even knowing what it is. So I came here to ask what it does.

edit- I opened it up in notepad to see what it does, but I don't know what it does.

The option to view hidden system files is not something that should suddenly become enabled(disabled) without user intervention.  Sounds to me like someone was snooping on your PC.  At least that's the conclusion I come to, assuming that option was indeed unchecked.

Perfectly normal to have it, but abnormal for it to suddenly appear without someone manually unchecking the option to 'hide protected operating system files'.

User could have changed it without knowing or an anti-virus could have unprotected them for security from the user.

Yeah that's what I was thinking

I'm leaning more to an anti virus doing it. I didn't even know how to get to that place.

Kaspersky, as part of its security, recommends showing extensions and hidden files for the user to be aware of certain changes. I don't know if it'll show OS files, though.
