Why is the offer of mATX AM4 motherboards so abysmal?

It's like all the manufacturers of motherboards got together and decided to not manufacture a single mATX that has basic features like:

  • Realtek ALC1220 Audio Codec
  • latest WiFi standard, or even just any WiFi option
  • more than one system fan connector
  • more than 2 DIMM slots

What's going on, why is the mATX format so completely neglected? Especially now when we have fantastic mATX cases like Define Mini C.

Um... There's quite a few AM4 mATX mobos with 4 ram slots and more than one fan header.

Don't know about the audio and WiFi options.  It's also still a relatively new platform.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

AsRock AB350M Pro 4 has 4 ram slots, just an example and couple more boards

Only ATX and mITX boards have WiFi.

Not sure bout Audio but if you are professional then you would get a sound card instead.

Almost all of them have 4, and here is a list to prove it (all should have 4 slots) https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#f=7&s=33&N=4,16

These two are because there aren't any high end mATX AM4 boards out yet, wait for the ASUS GENE/TUF, Aorus X370MX (or  whatever they end up calling it), the Asrock Taichi equivalent and so on and so on.

When the nice boards start dropping I'll be selling  my X370GT3 and picking up one of the aforementioned boards but right now there really isn't much to choose from.

They gave basically the same answer as I did, its some very simple supply/demand issues.  No manufacturer was willing to invest the R&D into a potentially weak platform so they released a slew of low to medium-high end boards on ATX, just to be safe.  Now that ryzen has succeeded I garruntee you will see more primo boards in the mATX and ITX spaces
