WARNING TO RYZEN BUILDERS AND NO DISPLAY

I've had this issue myself and so have a few others. I realized that this wasn't a coincidence when I saw that almost all of us had the same motherboard. The MSI B350 Tomahawk does not support R5 CPUs yet and are only compatible with R7 CPUs. You will have to wait until BIOS version 1.3 or later is released according to MSI, for R5 CPUs to be supported. I know some of you are having display issues that don't have this board but I've seen at least 5 others having this same issue with this same board so I figured I'd make a statement.

Good to know, but a better title would be something like "PSA about MSI Tomahawk and Ryzen 5", so people know what to expect and know it's a specific motherboard issue and not just a Ryzen thing.

It's not. Look it up. Multiple have had this problem. I switched the mobo out on my friends PC yesterday and it worked just fine.

Umm, now that pretty interesting (and weird at the same time I mean b350 mobos mostly meant for  R5 and not R7) there a few ppl talkin' sh*t on MSI Tomahawk as it broke on them suddenly for no apparent reason, honestly I'm glad that I did my research and gone with Asus b350 plus instead of that one

the only boards it won't work on are the original batch with the first version of the bios. Subsequentboards with later versions of bios will work ootb with r5s

update on the subject:

it seems that first initialization has been reported to take upwards of 10 minutes, hence why most people will immediately take to forums to complaining and calling the board and/or msi shit. People want instant gratification and have no patience.

do your research before spreading rumors.

the second link confirms compatibility with r5s ootb (msi by way of moderators)

also a handfull of threads posted here, on ltt.

and then there's people with b350 tomahawks and 1600x-es running on v1.0. And people that had no problems with 1600s on the same board.

most problems were due to doa parts (mostly ram) or people installing the ram incorrectly, having not read the manual.

Then there are grounds for false advertisement here, they can't write a cpu on the compatibility list if the bios that supports it is not out yet.
