Does backplate increase temps

Walt

Hi everyone,

I was planning on getting a backplate for my MSI armor gtx 1070. But I was wondering if a backplate increases the temps? It must keep some hot air between the backplate and gpu right?

If so is it a solution to chose a backplate with 'holes' or is at least open at some parts?

Like this:

Msi GTX 950 Armor (Black) - Coldzero

Thanks!

Backplates are made for aesthetics and to aid in cooling..

So it will decrease the temps?

Not really. Even really beefy copper heatsink style backplates from Gigabyte have little-no effect.

It won't not help but it'll lower it by like 1 degree

Unless there are chips that needs to be cooled like the initial GPUs in the days where back plates started, it is more for decorative purposes than anything. Reference designs GPUs these days don't need it as they have no chip on the back, if I am not mistaken... Things are getting more and more efficient. It MIGHT help if you do extreme overclocking.. but standard overclocking, nha, I highly doubt it.

Do you know a good place to buy GPU backplates in Europe?
