Will I get sick in VR at low frame rates?

I'm very new to VR, but this guy mentioned he was getting fps in the mid 30's in Xplane 11. Isn't VR supposed to maintain a minimum fps to prevent motion sickness? I believe I heard this somewhere but can't recall where. Can someone explain to me how hes getting such a low frame rate in VR? Will this make me sick?

Basically, if someone could explain this whole minimum fps in vr thing, and why it's not applying to him, that would be great.

Motion sickness is different for each person, there is no FPS limit but I believe the studies performed show that maintaining a minimum of 90 FPS will reduce the possibility of motion sickness in the largest number of people.

I don't know about you, but I get headaches when I'm forced to watch low framerate, choppy youtube videos.

So basically most games wont allow low framerates to prevent complaints?

Headaches and motion sickness most definately, VR is meant for high FPS games tbf.

I don't know, my knowledge of VR games is very limited. I played some sluggish VR games before and I've never gotten motion sickness from VR.

I wonder if it's any different with flight simulators. I mean, look at sitting in an aircraft with the terrain slowly passing by, then compare that to playing a fast paced shooter in VR. I would guess since your getting more frames that are similar in a flight simulator, it would be easier to look at than a fast moving game at the same frame rate. Just a guess though.

Not sure about 30fps but i play games for hours@60fps and i didn't feel sick or anything.

Doing some research I ran into something called "re-projection" which is a technique used in VR rendering. My understanding is that it takes the games frame rate and artificially renders it up to 90 fps. So the games environment is running at one frame rate, while the head tracking is always holding a consistent 90 fps. Almost like your inside a spherical display with one refresh rate, while your head movement holds another refresh rate. Seems to help a lot with motion sickness. Xplane users don't seem to be complaining with 30fps in vr.
