dont recover files from the drive, make a image and use that. if you screw up when pulling the files off, you can lose even more data.

how did the drive fail

I need to recover files from an SSD...what's a good free software solution for doing this?

No, I just got a used one, and whenever I get one pre-used, I always recover the files just for fun...it's just been such a long time since I did it I've forgotten which software I used to use.

Thanks, I think that's actually what I used before...I'm just reluctant to use it on the offchance that I go through the whole process only to have it ransom the files to me.

Thanks...I think it was the one I used to use also, it's just been a while...

...I think I'll run it after Puran File Recovery...not sure if it's any more effective than Puran, but I'll give it a try I think.

Just was worried about going through the process to have the files ransomed to me.

It's a drive I just bought on eBay...I think it may have been used and I tend to try and see what's on it before I start using it...it's quicker than DBANing it.

Thanks...I've scanned the drive in question and it looked like it'd not been used.

How do I do that...I googled it and it's a bit beyond my understanding...is it a command line input?

All of the sites I'm finding where that's discussed assume a level of background knowledge I just don't have. :/
