My first build

Hey guys,

So this is going to be my first pc build. I'm still kind of new to this whole thing, but I'm really excited to get it started! I'm still trying to learn all I can before I start ordering all my parts and putting everything together.

That's my part list, so if you guys have any advice I'm all ears. I know that there's some stuff I have on this list that's overkill but I'm ok with that haha.

Are you just going to be using it for games & internet browsing etc. or are you going to be doing other things?

Also, get an SSD (either sata or nvme) around 240gb in size, especially if you're only going to a 5400rpm hdd & are you actually going to use the optical drive?

That power supply is super overkill (so unless you particularly want it you could easily go for something lower wattage) and you appear to have many, many, many case fans.

SSD would be great as a boot drive.

Solid build, dont see a need for a 1000w psu but you do you i guess, personally if i were spending that much on a pc I'd go with more ram, could save more money on psu and buy more ram, you have commited the cardinal sin of not getting an ssd as well

Exactly this. For such an overkill PC (in my opinion, not sure what you're doing with it) you don't have a whole lot of RAM. 1000w psu is a bit much imo. and a SSD is always nice. Based on your current budget i'm guessing you have the money for these so go for it!

I get the feeling they arent building this at all and just decided to get all overkill things, anyone building this high end would know 1000w is wayyy too much and 16 gb ram at 2400 might not cut it assuming this is gaming/work station

Agreed. Seems like a weird build to me as well. He did tell he is new, so it's good he asked this.

Hoping they dont build this tho, they have included a decent mouse but includes a rubber dome keyboard

Assuming you actually want those specific peripherals (however, like others have said, better keyboard at least would be recommended). Personally I would go for a smaller monitor at a higher refresh rate, but that is your choice.

I've changed a few things for you (most of the main things are the same as you appear to want a white & black theme) that make it cheaper and you get a SSD for your boot drive too. This power supply is still more than overkill but is solid, and way cheaper than the one you picked.

Thanks! And to answer you earlier question the only things I'll be using the pc for, for right now is gaming and internet. I might get into video editing in the future but for right now that's it. As for the monitor I picked that one because I don't really care for multiple monitor setups. I might go down in size but I'm pretty set on that one. And I went with hdd instead cause it was cheaper. But from the looks of it I shouldn't pass up on the ssd. Like I said I'm still trying to learn and I don't have any friends who are into building computers that's why I posted this (I've basically YouTubed everything so far). I want to make sure I know everything I need to before I order everything. And if anyone has a recommendation on a solid gaming keyboard just let me know.

Dont worry, that's why you have this forum. People will be more than happy to help you. What @IntMD means, is getting a higher refreshrate. Not dual monitors(although once you try, your hooked) But if you have that big of a budget you should go for a higher refreshrate. Do some googling if you don't know what it does. And as i said before, it looks like you have quite the budget, in that case a SSD is essential.

I googled it, and I see what y'all were saying. Now with the video card, I knew that the 1080ti was major overkill before I selected it, but it was one of the only one's that I could find in white to go along with the color scheme that I want. Should I go with a 1070 or 1060 instead? Would they still perform well in 4k resolution?

A 1070 or a normal 1080 would perfom fine in 4k. 1070 may struggle at some games on ultra + 4k. But in general will still give decent results. You can also go for a normal 1080. I'm guessing you can find pretty much any card in the color you want

A Ryzen system would be so much more worth it, also that is an incredible overkill power supply and no SSD for boot and since you got the $$$ I would personally grab Asus over MSi for motherboard any day.

Ok cool thanks everyone!

God No if you want to game on 4k you do NEED a 1080ti, by every mean do not get a 1070 that will fall sort way too soon, I already have a hard time telling people to get the 1070 even at 2560x1440p resolution.

Thats why i said the 1070 does decent atm, and he should get a 1080. a normal 1080 should be fine though. But since he has the budget might as well go for a 1080TI.

Updated list.

Note: I have 5 fans on this list because I'm replacing the stock fans. And I've also decided on an all black look (I had been considering this already).

May i ask why you need so many storage? I mean you have a total of 4tb.

I would get an SSD or a hybrid.  They are a lot faster.

not sure if you are on a budget but you may want to look at this instead of the i7...

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3516822

you can get the ryzen 5 1600x as well as the asus AB350 Gaming K4 for 309.99 so compare that to your i7 at 329 and your mobo at 173 (500 total) you would be saving just about $200.00 and your chipset would yield far greater multi core and multi thread performance while still keeping pace with the i7 in single core applications. your performance per $ would be far greater and you could take that 200 and upgrade to 16gb Ram at higher speeds as ryzen likes faster ram.......

I just did a build with the ryzen 5 1600 and here are some benchmarks.... i just ran some more resent ones wins with my memory slightly overclocked to 2666 and I hit 1310 on cinibench with 113 fps..... I am overclocked to 3.95ghz at 1.35v running on the stock wraith sp[ire cooler..... all stable....
