Why is my LAN speed the same as my real Internet speed?

LiquidGoo

Hello,

For some reason my transfer speed in a LAN network is EXACTLY the same as my real Internet speed. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

All of my test were done on ethernet connected to my router.

Do you have the same speeds between different clients?

And also what kind of transfer scenario are you doing? i.e., lots of files or not a lot of files.

Disconnect the network from the internet and see if anything changes.

Nothing changes.

Files are from 1mb-500mb. Both clients are using a SSD.

Have you checked both PCs nics are set to 1000Mbps vs 100 or 10?

What is the network path like? ( Pc - switch - pc)

Well that seems to point out something's wrong with the router then. So, what's the router?

Inteno DG301

Yes, I have checked.

Network path is PC - Router - PC

Did you check the network speed they were setup at? If it's at 100Mbps, then it would make more sense that the network transfers are slow. 100 Mbps is a typical fallback and at best you're looking at 12.5MB/sec. But I don't know how much overhead Ethernet has.

Which reminds me, cables could also be suspect.

EDIT: Oh poo, ninja'd. It was in the post you quoted.

I would try replacement cable just to rule that out.

Can you do an ipconfig /all on both systems and paste it here?

Additionally can you run an iperf test and see if the transfer speed is the same?
