Oh for sure, prices just tend to skyrocket once you get much beyond 75hz IPS panels.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

True. The only 144hz IPS monitors I can think of atm is a Dell ultrawide (don't remember the name), and the Predator XB271HU, both of which are prohibitively expensive.

75hz with freesync is still pretty reasonable.

If someone wants a 27in 144hz IPS 1440p monitor with Gsync, the cheapest one (AOC) is literally $600USD.  The Predator you mentioned is $800.

Yeah, but 75hz isn't a very big improvement over 60hz.

And yeah I know the Predator isn't the cheapest. That was the point. They're both extremely expensive monitors.

but the response time though, and ips glow. VA panels are best now. Check out the Samsung C24FG70 https://www.pcgamesn.com/samsung/samsung-c24fg70-review-performance

This VA panel monitor has better contrast ratio and colour reproduction than any decent ips out there.

Trust me I'm using the monitor right now and its incredible. IPS will become great again if the put quantum dot into it but as of now, VA panels are taking the lead.

Can VA panels carry 1440p 144hz G-Sync? If not, I see no reason to siwtch

But he's got an amd gpu so a 100hz 1440p freesync monitor with better colour quality than ips is probably the way to go. Or a 144hz 1080p freesync monitor also with better colour reproduction than ips. Don't forget it has 1ms response time better than the ips 4ms response time and no ips glow just deeper blacks. Also has better contrast ratio with 3000:1 versus typical ips with 1000:1.

Hello. I'm currently planning a new build, and also wanted to purchase a new monitor. But I'm still not sure if I should go for 144Hz or one with an IPS panel. I play games like GTA V, Watch Dogs 2, Need For Speed, stuff like that, I'm not into first person or shooter games (because supposedly that's what 144Hz monitors are betetr at). But also someone told me that if I exceed 60fps it may cause screen tearing, so that's why it's better to get a 144Hz one. So I'm not really sure what to do, honestly. When it comes to my build, I'm planning on getting a Ryzen 5 (still not sure which one yet, maybe the 1600x) and a R9 380 2GB (it's the one I currently have so.. I'll have to stick with that one for a while to reduce cost)

144hz monitors are a world of difference, yet They give you no advantage at winning(at least for me!) It's mostly about a more fluid and enjoyable experience than an advantage.

take in mind that even with my RX 480 8GB I get 90-120fps in Overwatch at mostly high (expect shadows and some other stuff) at 2560x1440. it's not easy to get 144fps. but anything above 90fps is good enough. the diffrence from 90-144fps for me is definitely noticeable. even 120-144 is. but it's not that much of a difference to spend anything more than 50$ or turn down graphics settings for in my opinion.

The game also looks more realistic :C? weird I know but at higher fps my game feels more realistic! but I'm not sure if my new monitor is good or it's freeSync but I have no problems playing battlefield 1's campaign at 50fps :| it's smooth as hell.

there IPS panels that are 144hz if you have the money though. I personally if went back into time wouldn't bother with 144hz, why? well because it's like "WOW" for a month after that you're forced to buy 100hz+ monitors because even 75fps feels choppy now :D

also other than super crappy view distances there are a few TN panels that are very good. TN panels are stigmatized but a lot of decent ones are good enough! You can view theTechChaps on ips vs tn. he compared PG278Q to PG279Q, (1144hz TN vs 160hz IPS)

I wasn't talking about him, I was asking about VA because I wanted to know if I should get one for my next build.

When you say ips, you want it for image quality and accurate colours, this is where Samsung VA panels with quantum dot technology surpasses that. We are talking about SRGB125% (were typical ips panels are only SRGB100%), deeper blacks (no ips glow), good viewing angles and available in 144hz. The one I'm using is the Samsung C24FG70 curved 24inch 1080p monitor, also with freesync. Unfortunately if you don't like curved, ignore this comment because as of now, all of Samsung's gaming monitors are curved. also if you want one with 1440p, there is only 34 inch for that as well also with freesync. Now I've never used an ips panel before so don't go aggressive on me for being biased, I suggest checking in your local store if there might be on and see for your self.

Edit: In the US Samsung website, the monitor I have is around $300USD but I bought it for $600AUD because that's the price in Australia (monitors in AUS are expensive)

Any idea if theyre making any of these VA displays in 27-28" @ 1440p/2160p ?  The 144Hz IPS monitors are ~$1600 in our local currency, hoping something like this may be a few hundred cheaper.

Unfortunately there is only one model that comes in 1440p that uses quantum dot technology and that is the C34F791WQE. Its an ultra wide 34 inch curved with 100hz refresh and comes with free sync. Its about $1500 AUD unfortunately so its probably not something your looking for.

That sucks, Im just not a fan of the superwides. Working in IT I find multiple monitors much more useful than a single ultrawide. Maybe they'll release something else in the future - otherwise might need to bite the bullet for a Predator or similar. Thanks for the details though :)
