Just broke my PCI-E slot's lock/retention clip or whatever

So my question is, will the slot be able to hold the card properly? And, any way I can remove the lock from the 2nd slot & put it on the 1st one?

Do you know how to replace them?  If you do then go for it

Motherboard from the old days never had a locking clip and no one had problems, just as long as you don't move your PC too much and the card is installed securely.

Looking at that, your have a sliding lock clip? Where is that piece, might be able to just snap it back in.

  • 4 years later...

Not trying to necro, sorry.

However, my GPU moved out of PCIE slot over a period of time. I was wondering if that would cause damage over a period of time or is it just an inconvenience (EVGA 3080 if that helps [weight, size, etc])

Also, is it recommended to move it down to PCIE 2? Thank you in advance!
