Can't seem to see any specs on that specific server so it's hard to say.

If you're looking at that Cisco switch I just want to warn you that it's only 100Mb and only has two gigabit ports. You can pick up a gigabit unmanaged switch for about the same price from Amazon or other sites.

that's actually surprisingly expensive for a G5, especially for one that looks to be a very basic kit.

it's a g5, we're talking "front side bus" level of old server :P

Can't say much on the server, but I would reconsider the switch. It's only 100BASE-T with two 1000BASE-T ports. If you don't actually need 24 ports, I would consider looking at a smaller Gigabit switch or look at spending more on a gigabit 24 port switch.

Well for one it's a managed switch, so you need to know what you're doing in order to use it compared to an unmanaged switch which is just plug and play. Plus if you want fast local transfers or get upgraded service it will be the limiting factor. A gigabit switch with 8 or 16 ports is about $30 USD so even at double that for you, you'll still be better off.

G5 pricing has been dropping like stones, it's pretty shocking.

they're.. worth the money if you can get them cheap, i'll give it that much...

but for €70 for a G5... that's almost G6 terretory, which is a pretty interesting leap in performance.

you say that, but it isn't at the moment as no ones selling G6s for under £100 at the moment, and if they are they are barebones, so you need to buy enough RAM and CPUs which easily brings it up to over £100

not too shabby reasonable specs, check ebay as well, there is some good things there to. it'll certainly do the job, but there also might be better value servers out there as well
