Needlessly annoying audio problems with intigrating my ps4 into my setup

So I've had a ps4 and gaming PC for a while now, and I have to say I love them both dearly.

BUT I want to marry my to machines (as much as I can that is) and run the ps4 audio through a second monitor and a set of external speakers. But there is an issue- the damn thing wont work. I'm connecting my speakers to the audio jack on my Asus vp228h and my ps4 to the monitor's HDMI port and nothing. So I do some of the googling and see if I can at least route the thing through my headset (So I can play something and watch a dumb video because I'm addicted to multitasking) So I put it into the Line in jack on the io (Motherboard is the MSI Krait gaming 3x... not really sure that's important actually) and what do ya know it didn't work. So I go into my control panel and see if the line in is set to listening: I check that box, click apply annndd.... Nothing. All I can do is get the ps4 to run through the god awful built in speakers.

I'm at a loss, I want to be able to do my unnecessary multitasking and hear all my stuff through my headset, BUT I still want to play the thing speakers only if I'm feeling more casual. I've seen plenty of walkthroughs and read a decent 15 troubleshooting/ FAQ posts, and they all seem to end the same- the "Listen to this device" isn't checked. Unfortunately in this case mine is and I just can't get the issue resolved.

I don't think the Audio out jack actually passes through the HDMI audio. I have an similar ASUS monitor, and all it does is pass through the 3.5mm in for DVI video.

Your best bet would be to run the PS4 and PC HDMI outputs through a receiver. You can also get HDMI audio extractors from Monoprice.

The audio jack on monitors is an input to the monitor's internal speakers. If getting an HDMI audio receiver or one that accepts TOSLINK, the PS4 can route audio to the controller itself and it uses a standard 3.5mm jack.

If you have two controllers, I can imagine you can use one of them as a BT audio receiver.
