MPCIE COMBO IV not coming off

Hi all, I just got a used Maximus VII Impact from ebay and even after removing the silver screw that secures the combo to the mainboard the combo doesn't come off, the previous owner says that you can put an m.2 ssd withouth removing the metallic bridge but that sounds strange to me, I should be able to take the combo off, I forced it until the board started to bend and then I stopped, hafve you heard of something similar??
