Do i need 144 fps for a 144hz monitor?

So i got a asus vg248qe monutor with 144hz in 1080p. Going to play cod games (bo3 probably) but it will not be able to reach 144 fps. On high settings 80 fps avarage or 90 (from benchmarks) will it be bad? Or will the screen just show 90 fps when having 90fps

No, there's nothing wrong with that.

if your PC can't run games more than 144 hz, then its sort'ove of a waste of money. but yes, if you get 90 fps, you will get that true 90 fps. anything above 144 fps will show max of 144 fps

Well it's a bit of a waste if you don't get 144fps.

Well yeah i was dumb buying 144 hz but hey, for my future rig i will need it soo

144Hz are 144 Hz no matter what. But yeah.. when not hitting 144 FPS its a waste. :-)

Well you can get close to 144fps if you graphics settings. I mean if you're actually 'playing' then you won't care too much a details right?

Not really, if you get 100 fps then you'll still get a better experience than if you were on a 60 Hz monitor.

Eh that's true but it's still a waste of a 144hz monitor if you can't get 144fps or more. I'm sure you know what I'm getting at.

You are logically correct.

 

Although, I still think if you're not on a super tight budget, then you you should go for a nice 144hz monitor. It's not like you're going to upgrade your monitor more often than your GPU. The only time I use the 165Hz refresh rate on my monitor is when I play older or undemanding games. I only get 112-118fps max @1440p on average in BF1. Yet, some simulators I play yield thousands of fps, so there's that too lol.

I know what you mean, you're "not getting the most out of your money" but I wouldn't call that a waste.

To be honest duck I don't think you really thought that through. Basically your saying (without actually saying it) that the fancy setup you have currently gives you 144 fps so it makes sense to have that monitor. So in a year or two when system reuirments shoot up and your average fps in games is down to 100, that your monitor is no longer beneficial and you should maybe trade it in for a monitor with a 100hz refresh? And then when you upgrade your hardware, you will trade int he 100hz for a 144 hz or a 240 hz? Bottom line is higher refresh rate is smoother and easier on the eyes no matter how many fps you get. Let's not forget the sole reason we seek out higher refresh rates in the first place and it has nothing to do with fps.. its about how often the screen refreshes ands how smooth the your games look with higher refresh. Point is fps is variable and I do not believe that youa re getting 144 fps on withcer 3 with hairworks and erverything else on ultra. I detect more passive pc snobbery than helpful info in your reply.
