SLI with different brand GPUs possible?

Hey!

Does anybody have any experience with mixing the same card but from different brands in SLI? any known issues or something?

Advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If they are the same GPU then yes but it will look crap

If one of the cards is slower or has less memory than the other, the more powerful card will "dumb itself down".

EDIT: People corrected me that you need the same memory on both cards.

Though in hindsight I don't think NVIDIA has done the same exact GPU with two different memory configs in a long time.

yes, but if the factory overclocks are different, then the faster one will slow down

It can be potentially useful if you have a reference blower-style cooler and a AIB custom cooler model next to it though... exhaust and all that good stuffs. <w<

Wrong. If they have different memory allocations, they simply won't work. That's Crossfire you're thinking of. SLI is waaay more strict.

Yeah. Needs to be same GPU (i.e. 970 and 970) but not necessarily same brand (looks like ass though). Same amount of VRAM is required, I believe.

Alright so i guess it would work right? Or how would i find out about memory allocations of any given card?

really not concerned about the looks.

Thanks!

You can't SLI cards with differing amounts of vRAM. I've also had cards that ran at different clock speeds.

So memory allocations is just fancy talk for vram...

ok. yeah I was assuming that much.

thanks a lot!

It's anecdotal to my experience, but you can mix gpu's with differing memory brands (ie: Samsung and Hynix) without an issue
