GTX 1060 vs GTX 1070 (144hz 1080p or 1440p)

Azurek

Hi everybody,

I want to replace my GTX 750Ti with either a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070. This card will be paired with either a 144hz 1080p screen (Samsung CFG70) or an IPS 1440p screen (Dell Ultrasharp 25").

There is currently a discount just for today in Belgium for purchasing the ASUS ROG STRIX GTX1060 6G Gaming for 300 euros (50euros discount) or the INNO3DG GTX1070 TWIN x2 for 400euros (80 euros discount).

I have been thinking about getting a GTX 1060 for a while, but this current discount has made my decision a lot harder. (Then there is also the chance of having a better discount for christmas, risk <> reward)

What are your thoughts? I want to play games such as BF1, Gears of Wars 4, The Witcher 3, and others that will soon come out at max settings.

welp to start off im assuming the 1070 is the 8gb version. clearly if you want to max out games and pair it up with a 1440p screen, then its the 1070 for sure.not that hard, but do you have a budget?

considering the 1070 comes with 8GB and 8GB only, yes, i'd say he means the 8GB version

IMO, the 1070. the 1060 is great for 1080p 60Hz or light 1440p gaming. the 1070 will definitely give you well over 100fps in 1080p maxed out or 60fps on 1440p

GTX 1070 if you want either 144hz or 1440p. You should go with 1440p it's nice to have the extra space. You won't notice 144hz unless you are super into competitive FPS and can push the frames.

GTX 1060 is for 1080p at 60 fps

GTX 1070 is great for 1440p at 60fps

So if you want something more than 60fps at 1080p, get GTX 1070.

i would also say if possible go for a higher res over higher fps (once you hit the 60 sweet spot)

to be honest (i have tried both) you just get used to 144Hz and it will just look shit if you drop a frame once in a while.

but in the end it comes down to pers prev. if possible try it out on events or at a friends house or something. also for your daily tasks 1440p just gives you the extra work space :D

i would get the GTX 1070 and the 60Hz 1440P DELL monitor any day of the week personally.

GTX 1070 and 1440p monitor surely, 144hz is harder to drive and give you little to no benefit imo unless you're a competitive gamer and have a proper CPU to drive it.

33% more money for 40%-50% more performance? Hell yeah.

Dell Ultrasharp U2515H is the screen I was thinking about. Do you have any other recommendations for a good IPS 1440p monitor?
