Hyper 212 Evo. Air gap

I have the Hyper 212 evo. The fins have a cutout with leaves a gap between the fan and the fins. I can feel what seems like a lot of air coming out of the gap and away from the fins. I don't have temperature issues but I'd like to optimize that situation.

Anyone seen this before/ fixed it?

Its perfectly normal

That is designed to allow some air to escape and cool the VRM's and the mobo chipsets.

However, it is on both ends of the fan, and it has to be reversible.

I would not recommend messing with it, as it may cause strange noises.

Also, if you use tape or something, the adhesive will melt and probably ruin anything it touches

Feel free to experiment and tape up the gaps to see if it changes anything. There's no harm in doing so.

The gap also helps keep noise down.  Same reason the rear fan location on chassis are often domed.

They wouldn't have designed it if it would be better to have no cap...

I've used electricians tape on top of coolers bottom part. The one which is directly on top of CPU. Used to have thermal probe there reading ~10C lower temps than CPU. It was still sticky when I took those probes off the case.
