Can't find password Kali 2

I've just installed kali 2 on a windows laptop i have and it boots into kali but when it asks for a username and password i enter what i put when i set it up  and it says password is incorrect and i even changed the password in recovery mode and it still won't work. Any help?

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3 ~ SSD:HyperX Savage 240GB  ~  PSU: Corsair CX550M

 ~ MOUSE: Logitech G700s ~ KEYBOARD: Razer Blackwidow tournament

            HEADPHONES: Focousrite HP60  ~ MIC:Focusrite CM25 ~ A.I: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ~ MONITOR: Asus VC239H 23-inch IPS Monitor ~ CASE: Fractual Design define R4  ~ Corsair MM300 Medium

try 'root' with the password 'toor' see if that gets you in. Not sure if Kali allows logging in as root. If not, just re-run the setup and double check what you put in for user/pass.

Was the iso/install from the official site? If not and its some tweaked version then it may be different. 

Are you sure the keyboard set up was right and hasn't been changed?

caplock/numlock

Are you logging in on the machine or over ssh?

 

Try re-installing since its a fresh install anyway.

i just remembered that it asked me to set a root password and i put that in and it worked and it was actually username i was getting wrong
