HP updates Z240 workstation with 6700K

NumLock21

HP has recently added the Intel Core i7 6700K, allowing clients to customize their workstations by having, Intel's current highest clock cpu. The cpu list originally only had lock cpu and xeons, but with those who need the extra clock for single threaded performance. The 6700K, is the best option, running at 4GHz, compared to the non-k Core i7 6700, which only ran it 3.4GHz, that's 600MHz slower. While these workstations will come with a 6700K, when clients customized their builds, there is zero overclocking on these systems. Instead, its more focus on stability.

I still think intel should have made the 6700 3.9/4.0ghz instead of heavily downclocking it,  and just disable overclocking

Well at least it isn't a slow Xeon.

My college just upgraded to these!

Oh well, at least they have the 6700, which isn't terribly slow like the old Xeon W3505s were.

From HP site, starting model that allows customization starts with a core i5 6500 @3.2GHz. 6700K is extra $260 @4GHz or for the same price a Xeon 1270 v5 @ 3.6GHz. Fastest xeon on that list 1280 v5 @3.7GHz, which cost a additional $835! Some can build a entire machine with that, including keyboard, mouse, monitor and OS.
