Looking for a over 1080p ips monitor

KSores

My main monitor is the Asus PB278Q. It's 27", 1440p, IPS, fully adjustable, and it's usually about $450USD (I'm assuming that's less than $900CAD). I've had it for a couple of years and I love it.

A cheaper (and smaller) option would be the ASUS pb258q. 1440p ips like it's bigger brother, but it's only 25"

Also BenQ has one just like the PB278Q for the same price. Looks like they are both $499CAD at NCIX.

I allmost got this one but was unsure if the price was too high and there forever no point having it 1440p

And it is sold at my local pc stores but has always said "we do not offer this product at this time " and I wondered if that was because Ithe was bad

Take a look at Dells U2715H and U2515H, they're both good monitors.
If you're serious about gaming you could also consider a 144Hz 1440p IPS monitor with gsync/freesync although im not sure if they're in your pricerange (Im european).

I would not recommend Ultra HD monitors at this time.

My brother has a 24" one and it looks like about everything (including chrome) is actually rendered at 1080p. My 1440p 27" monitor looks way sharper.

I had U2515H and 1440p on 25" is not too small, it was okay, but text is small so better increase its size even if it is readable for you. For me it was perfectly readable and after two months I ended up with eye strain and now I have to use glasses for computer work, no matter screen size or resolution. Don't read tiny text even if it is readable, this is unnecessary effort to eyes.

This is a good point. I didn't think about text sizes before I got my 1440p monitor. Some sites are super small. Not a reason to NOT get a high resolution monitor but something to keep in mind.

I used the P2416D 24" version of the U2515H and whilst some sites with small text becomes harder to read, it was a very nice experience and I would highly recommend it

It depends on your needs, space on desk, distance you sit from screen and etc. 25" is perfectly fine, but if you have money and you can justify additional cost, then get 27", but 25" is fine, there are no serious disadvantages of getting one over 27 inch.

EDIT: I am on mobile and misread that >1080p....sry for that.

From personal experience I could suggest the Eizo Foris FS2434. It has IPS, therefore a refresh rate of 60Hz and the screen itself is 23.8 inches. Might be too small for some. Because of my limited space it fits perfectly on my desk. The resolution is 1080p.

Unfortunately it has only HDMI and DVI and forget about the built-in speakers. They are even worse than those on my notebook. Alternatively LG had a model, which was unluckily sold out. I do not remember the name though. Asus and BenQ are solid brands.
