Why would this get released in the end of March 2016? =.=

The 960 only makes remote sense if under 160$. For the price of the Xtreme version you can get a 380X which is 25% faster

i highly doubt this will be under $160 ... haha price is probably going high and result in no one would buy

The 960 sales are already at an all time low. When it released the price got cut insanely quickly - it's the fastest Nvidia has EVER cut prices. Truly terrible value

Yup - mainly cause the 280 was performing the same but with 3GB of VRAM and for less money

Really can't say if this is a smart or dumb move yet.  I wonder how high it will be able to overclock with an 8 and 6 pin requirement.

If you could get this thing performing like a 960 ti would (as in, far above the advertised factory OC), along with the backplate and LED lights, it would be a pretty sweet $200 card.

Thing is - even with more power, you still have to up the voltage and Gigabyte cards are notorious for voltage limits so I doubt anyone would get this thing high enough to reach a 380X - maybe it would reach a 380 but you're still getting a more exepnsive, louder (heat) card with a memory bandwidth bottleneck vs a cheaper plug'n'play solution like the 380.

Yeah, I don't think it will reach a 380X (or a theoretical 960 ti), nor do I think that's what they're aiming for.  But adding the 8pin seems entirely pointless if they're going to cap the voltage that much.

This card does have me curious, though.

It's the same thing with the 750 Ti with 4GB of VRAM - HAXOR 720 No-scope kids like Xtreme products and makes them feel good.

The Razer of GPUs I see. 9_9

At least the LEDs could look pretty cool in a flat mobo case.

I prefer clean and simple blower design cards - the HIS 7950 was a real winner for me - good cooling, overall low noise, neat blue design. Currently fancing the Club3D R9 380 Royal Queen.

The reason why graphics cards are being released over a year after the initial release is part marketing, part better wafer yield. This 960 is being released with nearly 200MHZ factory overclock, something which was not feasible to release in volume when the card was releasing. When it was released, you were looking at a 25-50MHZ increase on the core, and practically no increase on the memory.

Fast forward a year, and the quality of the chips are significantly higher, so reliably getting 1300+ MHZ capable chips for sale is feasible. They could just sell them under the older 960 names, but they can charge more for the 1300+ MHZ cards.

Motherboard: Asus X570-E
CPU: 3900x 4.3GHZ

Memory: G.skill Trident GTZR 3200mhz cl14

GPU: AMD RX 570

SSD1: Corsair MP510 1TB

SSD2: Samsung MX500 500GB

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum
