  • cooler master mastercase pro 5 w/ window

  • x2 hyper x fury 4gb ddr4 2133mhz ram

  • corsair hydro retention bracket (lost my old one)

  • antec kuhler 620 120mm CPU cooler (had an extra laying around)

  • x3 140mm cooler master pwm fans

  • x1 antec 120mm voltage controlled fan

  • evga supernova 750 gold modular psu

  • intel core i5 6500

  • gigabyte ga-g1.sniper b7 atx mobo

  • x1 pny gtx 780ti reference gpu (had an extra laying around)

  • x1 pny cs1311 240gb ssd (550mb/s read, 520mb/s write)

  • x1 WD 1TB 3.5in media drive

  • corsair k65 vengeance compact cherry mx red keyboard

  • nixeus vue 24" 144hz monitor (nx-vue24a)

it's a board that fits my needs exactly. with no reason to add more PCIe lanes at this time or in the distant future, I bought a board that sufficiently supports 1 GPU that will be a x16. there could be a time where I add an additional PCIe device, but likely it will only be a wifi card if I ever do, or a simple USB expansion card. so the fact of the matter is, it does exactly what I wanted to buy and it keeps the colour scheme I have going on.

agreed. the green design just makes the build that much more complete without having to ghetto paint any hardware with risk of voiding warranties.

In order to make this build relevant in the future, my intention on settling with the Cooler Master Mastercase Pro 5 was not for sole fact that I wanted a truly beautiful case, but I wanted something with the modular aspect. Being around the professional PC tech industry, I always wondered in years past why something like this case hadn't been made MAINSTREAM. Sure, you were able to find close relations to the modern modular case idea, but it was never mass-marketed, nor was it visioned that this was what consumers wanted. We were in such complacent times when it came to raw case design and implementation. 

In other words to elaborate further, this case is going to stay with me for as long as I can, and remain as innovative as it can be as future hardware changes progressively.

 

Now with said, I have been thinking of maybe getting back to my custom loop watercooling setups. I've done many, many in the past and can be found on my old topics. However, the question remains: with TDP slowly getting lower and energy efficiency improves, what is the reason for non-overclocked cpu's? My stock cooler for my i5-6500 can keep my CPU at a mere 24*c-30*c average (with the 3 included 140mm case fans). So, with proper airflow management, it almost seems like the sole purpose of the insane cost spikes we've seen in the custom watercooling industry is to make an easy dollar and to take advantage of those consumers who wish to purchase and install the product(s). Now obviously, I can see the price justification for a true workstation rig, or a 24/7 rendering machine, or heck even a HARDCORE gaming rig that features tier-1 hardware with hardware that's overclock able to the extreme. 

 

So I guess I am having a dilemma- do I go for something that is more cost effective and essentially gives the same results +/- a few degrees, or do I go out and spend money that I don't necessarily have to? Or heck, do I supplement my savings for my realistic, beneficial components such as: NVMe SSD's, type-c add-in hardware, etc?

 

I love all aspects of the computer industry- I am not biased towards air or water/liquid cooling.. in fact 90% of the time I like to include BOTH sectors (liquid/water cooled CPU's, air cooled GPU's or vice versa.. liquid/water cooled GPU's, air cooled CPU's).

 

If somebody feels the need to respond to this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

updates:

 

adding x2 Cooler Master Blade Master 120mm fans to radiator. went to a local lowe's and bought new m3 6-32 screws

had to make a DIY block off- not going to spend $15+ just for a simple plate. cardboard it is! this is the bottom of the DIY block off.

this looks great, all done. the temperatures are much more consistent, and dropped my GPU temps since there is one more 120mm fan in the system.

the DIY block off is NOT noticable with the top cover on what so ever as you can see. it may look ghetto, but it is not visible. nice touch and simple. like the build subtitle.. i am on a budget as well. :D

thanks, sir! I think so too. the temps on the GPU idle are 27*c - 32*c and CPU idle temps are 18*c - 23*c.

the temps on the GPU load are 73*c - 77*c and CPU load temps are 31*c - 42*c.

by the way, the GPU is OC'd at: +125mhz core clock and +95mhz memory clock.

for the record, the reason positioning changed on radiator was because the motherboard power connector on the top left wasn't allowing the 2nd fan on the radiator to clear it. 

since I like top mounted radiators, I had to go with the choice of flipping locations.
