4790K vs 6700K vs 5820K for programming

Which of these is better for programming using Visual Studio and Qt? I'll also  be doing lots of gaming but at this price point they're all good :p. I'll be doing a medium overclock to at least 4.5 GHz with a Kraken x61 from NZXT. Thanks!

5820k is by far the best when overclocked...

I'd shoot for 5820k and X99 since you get 8ram slots on X99 it's the clear victor in this situation.

 

It's also pretty much on par with the 6700k for gaming.

The 5820K, is a slice of extreme and high end consumer cpu, at an affordable level. If you want no compromises, thats the option to go for.

RAM is what you want for programming. RAM! RAM! RAM!

 

Not positive, but I think the z170 is also limited to a maximum of 64gb of RAM while the x99 can go up to 128gb.

go X99 - you won't regret

just make sure you have a good SSD with top IO performance

processor doesn't mean much in programming. for 2 years at uni I programmed on some dual core i3, RAM is what you need because quite a few things will be loaded into memory especially if you do android dev and don't an android phone to use as an emulator in which have fun waiting 15 mins for that emulator to fire up

Lol that depends on what he means when he says programming.

 

Maybe it's just what I do, but I tend to think of huge programs with massive sprawling code and then dealing with multi-hour compile times... Then cpu cores helps a lot... (and ram doesn't matter much)

 

If doing more like game dev then ram obviously is the bigger issue.
