Mallowpuffs

Not done looking yet, but so far it seems people like it.

The only things people really don't like is that it's a little flexy and the Dell support is terribad.

But I mean i3+820m doesn't really sound like a $350 laptop. Even if it is 4th gen i3, they're fast enough to run anything she's gonna do.

Keep in mind that's a "U" chip so it will be a lot slower than a desktop i3.

Check reviews from Notebookcheck, com and other reputable sources. Customer reviews are VERY misleading

I know, but I don't think the performance jump is huge from 4th to 5th gen i3s.

They don't seem to have a review for it.. I'm not sure where else to look. Like you said, customer reviews are all over the place...

Youtube is a good place to start

Look for random forum reviews and such.

Wait.. What has better performance, an 820m or Intel HD 5500?? I was sure it was 820m by far?

As in just for specs, is the dell or this better? http://www.amazon.com/F555LA-AB31-15-6-inch-Full-HD-Laptop-Windows/dp/B011KFQASE/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1452544356&sr=1-1

The Asus has a 1080p display, and 5th gen i3 whereas the dell has an 820m but lower res display and 4th gen i3.

Erm.. I'm not exactly sure what that means. The benchmarks show the 5500 being better in almost everything?

As for quality on the Asus I posted, I mean are they really bad? The 1080p panel and 5th gen i3 are really tempting me..

Found another one that looks pretty good!

You lose 1080p, but you gain 500GB hard drive space, it being a Lenovo and upgrade to an i5.

I hate to be a bother but if anyone could just help me decide between the..

Dell: 4th gen i3, 820m.

Asus: 5th gen i3, 1080p.

Lenovo: 1TB HDD, 5th gen i5.

As she wants to order tonight..

Another thing making me lean towards the Asus was the ac wifi, but as of now our router is only a/b/g/n. And being that it would be the only thing in the house using ac, chances are we won't be getting a router capable of it until that means just as cheap as not.

I guess the Asus. From what i could see the Lenovo has no cooling fan and that would result in thermal issues. The Dell has 20% worse GPU performance and a 720p. From what i can tell the Asus is likely the best option.

If you don't mind stretching a bit this is faster* though

I'll ask her, but I think she'll go with the Asus.

My other sister uses an A10-7300 and it's painfully slow. Not sure if that would be the case with that one.

I guess I'll probably have her order the Asus.

The A10 laptop is probably slow due to a slow HDD - 5400RPM drives are slow

My personal recommendation remains the Lenovo followed by the APU Asus.

Before I ask her, would the 7400P be noticeably faster in gaming over the i3 with HD5500? Like worth $100 more?

EDIT: And doesn't the $450 Asus have a 5400 RPM HDD?

CPU horsepower - A10 7400P is 15% faster

GPU horsepower - A10 7400P is 5% faster

APUs dominate in this market

See, to me I would literally bare through the first week or two of college without one, and get up some more money. At least up to $500-600ish.

But she's in a tight spot with money and has to sit at school for 3+ hours a day doing nothing. That's why she wants a laptop ASAP.

She's definitely leaning towards the i3 Asus though.. She wants a 1080p screen(First one in the house. Just built my i5 4460/GTX 960 rig and still use 1050) and it's 2lbs lighter.. I'm just going to let her get what she wants. It doesn't seem like any of them are bad really.

Asus have horrible support, that's the major downside. If you can live with potentially bad customer support then get the Asus for battery life. If you want proper support in case of hardware failure, Lenovo is better. So is Dell or MSI or HP

Alright, we've been talking and out of all of these, she still wants the i3 Asus for the battery life/weight.

But she did bring up a question. What would an extra $200 bring? I mean is it worth it to that for someone that's tight on money but wants to play some games, it's stupid to go $350 when $550 is like many times better?

Well, obviously but how much better? Right now she decided if it's THAT much better she could go into the mid 400s but was really just wondering about the $500+ market.

i5 cpu, not the cheapest plastic ever made xD, something like a 820m-830m or Intel HD Graphics 520 or HD 5500.
