I heard somewhere that there is no access panel, and you have to take most of the laptop apart.

Hmmm you might need to do that, I am not sure since I don't buy none business class laptops

The best bang for her buck is a used laptop with warrenty, that you can test out to see if everything is okay.

I know, but she needed it today. It's already going to be hard enough without it. She said if I don't find one this morning, she IS ordering that i3 Asus.

If she can live with a laptop that feels really shitty build and is shitty build then go for the acer, but note it will not be able to take any hits at all.

Last cry for help.

I'll let her decide between the Asus(i3+1080p, $350) Lenovo(i5, m360, 1080p, $460) and Acer(i5, 940m, 1080p, 8GB RAM, $480) if I get no more answers.

Acer - best specs. Worst build. Mediocre support

Asus - worst specs. Worst support. Worst build

Lenovo - MEDIUM specs. Best build. Okay support

See, that's another thing. I've never had a laptop that doesn't overheat. Never had a Lenovo though.

But full out specs wise, it seems like the 940m is upwards of 20-30% better than the m360, and the RAM issue.. I've seen Minecraft with a high res TP and some mods use up to 2-3GB, and with skype running..

Ram is fine. I spent 3-4 years running much more demanding games with 4gb.

I guess. I haven't really used over 4GB, I've just seen Minecraft get close.

I'll just let her decide... I'd think she'd go with the Acer, but now I'm not so sure.. Overheating is an issue..

CPU package reached 97*c. At 100*C It will turn off with a bsod and potentially damage the cpu

That means. After a year you can expect regular overheating qs dust builds up

They did say that was under an extreme amout of stress though. My i5 4460 got to 81* using that stress test, and never runs over 55* with normal use.

The Acer is pretty much out of the picture anyway, because no DVD drive..

P95 got my i7 4720HQ only to 90*C with the 860M in full force to 85*C. My CPU is 4-times hotter and the GPU is also 4-times hotter. The equivalent Asus RoG laptop goes to around 95*C CPU and 90*C GPU for the same specs on the Skylake i7 (that is cooler than the Haswell one) and it actually straight up has a thermal barrier on the Haswell version to prevent shutdowns but has unplayable temps for the GPU

Well the cpu in the Asus is slightly better, but the Asus is 768p where the lenovo is 1080p.

The gpu is better in the Lenovo.

Asus has 8gb ram vs Lenovo 4gb ram

CPU - Lenovo

GPU - Asus

Build - Lenovo (Z-series is the lower-budget Y-series versions and both are worlds better than any Asus cheapo at this price)
