The Australian government wants to pass laws that make it legal to resell digitally purchased music and ebooks.

It might even force music labels to remove DRM if it prevents a legal sale from taking place.

The Australian government must really be annoying companies right now. With both this and their plan to combat the "Australian Tax" big companies stand to loose a lot of money, by banning Geo-blocking and other means. They deserve to lose it in Australia due to the higher prices we have paid them for years.

So, no DRM means it's easier to obtain it by "other" means?

probably its like downloading an old game like black and white 2 that doesn't have DRM it doesn't really matter what source you get it from official or otherwise its exactly the same

oh dear was that YOUR computer i just downloaded a few dozen viruses on when you weren't paying attention?

sort of, There are ways to maintain DRM and transfer files from one owner to another. It will be just the DRM's that prevent that that will have to be removed.

I like that the government here is starting to look out for the consumer, but they could have started years ago rather than living with their heads in the sand.
