Intel Core i7 4790k Locked at 800mhz?

Go to solution Solved by unclewebb,

This is usually caused by a bad sensor on your motherboard.  It can signal the CPU using the BD PROCHOT (bi-directional processor hot) signal path and trick the CPU into thinking that the CPU is running too hot even when it is not.  This forces the CPU to use the minimum multiplier (8) so it slows down to a crawl, even when loaded.

To block these signals, try using ThrottleStop and disable BD PROCHOT.  Your CPU should immediately jump up to its full rated speed.

Just go onto the computer and I have noticed that it is really slow. So I opened up CPUZ to find that my cpu is locked with a multiplier of x8. I went back into my mobo and reset it back to default, booted back up and it is still locked at x8. I reapply an older bios update and it is still the same.

What is the problem here. Is it the mobo or the cpu?

Had this PC back in October of 2014 running strong till now.

You didn't mention the CPU temperature.

Locked at 800mhz?

Control panel>Power settings>High performance

Try that.

You didn't mention the CPU temperature.

CPU temp is at 33 idle and around 65 under load.

Could it be that my CPU is malfunctioning?

If that is the case, then has anyone here ever have to deal with Intel's RMA?

I've delt with Newegg rma on my last 4790k. Temps were in the 90c. They took it back with out any issues

Sadly I didn't buy it from Newegg. I got it from NCIXUS due to a black friday sales.

Going to contact Intel and see what they can do, before I contact NCIXUS.
