Would a sata 3 Sata have any affect compared to a HDD when connected to Sata 1 and Sata 2 connection on a motherboard. I know that it is backward compatible and that it will cap the speed to the sata connection but would it be faster than HDD on any of these connections?

Do you mean would a sata 3 (6 Gbps) ssd be faster than a hdd on a sata 2 (3Gbps) connected to your motherboard. I think thats what you mean. Then it depends by faster do you mean iops then yes but it wouldnt be by much since your still caping the ssd at 3Gbps.

The ssd in either the 3 or 6 Gbps would saturate the connection (givin its not a really old ssd like pre M4) however the hdd will not saturate the 6Gbps connection.

An SSD will still be faster as it can at least saturate the SATA connection where as the HDD cannot.
