HTPC Mini ITX Build Suggestions Needed!

Mrinsane

Hi, need some suggestions and opinions. Not much of an Intel guy.

I will be building a HTPC. Not much gaming intended, mainly 1080p movies etc.

I am thinking of 3rd gen intel cpu that has HD 4000 iGPU. Not sure to get either i3 or i5. I doubt overclocking is necessary but future proofing it for upgrades maybe considered.

Case: Fractal design node 605.

Mobo: Not too sure. Either H77 or Z77.

SSD: Any 120gig SSD.

Ram: Kingston 1333mhz

PSU: No idea yet.

CPU Cooler: Stock? :)

GPU: Maybe in the future.

Post any comments, suggestions and opinions. Gladly appreciate any help.

For regular stuff core i3 has plenty of power. It's probably future proof for a couple of years. Core i5 is a killer. It will be future proof for regular computing for like 5+ years.

  • CPU: Intel Core i3 3220

  • GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6570

Motherboard: Gigabyte B75M-D3H

RAM: 2x Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 430watt

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB

Stock heat sink is fine, if you're not going to overclock. The temps on my core i3 3220 never go over 60 degrees. Even during gaming.

Nice build. Too cramped inside your case. Should work on cable management. Maybe I will get i3. Need more suggestions. Thanks @bob756

Looks good! For the PSU you can get away with a 300W-400W

Thank! What psu can you suggest? I would prefer like small psu but I'm pretty sure node 605 fits full size psu.

Get any PSU from a reliable brand like SeaSonic, Corsair, Antec, etc.

If you are not going to over clock - can save some money on the board and go H77... PSU - as Gamer said, get a good brand name - also, look to fully modular ones. Will cost more, but trust me, the space savings and only have the cables in the build you need is huge. Stock cooler is fine for those CPU's.
