Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H + FX-6300 not working

jvkeizer

My friend is building a PC with a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mobo. At first he had an AMD Phenom II with this mobo with which it would only turn on for like one second. So he bought an FX-6300 and now thefans keep spinning but we get no video output whatsoever. We think the GPU (XFX 6870) isn't the issue because we also tested with a newly bought cheapo card (Geforce 210 :D). Also the RAM is 3x1GB of Samsung PC3-8500U-07-10-A0. We also tested with two different displays and HDMI AND DVI with a VGA adapter. We have also pulled the CMOS battery.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My personal rig: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/139780-zalman-my-first-build/

I use it partially as a Hackintosh. Don't judge me.

Have you updated the Motherboards BIOS? As that will have an effect on CPU Compatability.

put the phenom back in cus unless it has a bios update it likely wont support the fx chip.

no post diagnostics

try it with 1 stick of ram.

make sure you reset the cmos properly, pulled the power, waited 30 seconds etc etc

try the other stick of ram, put the system to bare minimum and build it up from there, eliminate possible dead components and start building it up stick of ram/gpu at a time

fx6300 isnt supported at all it seems (i could be wrong) http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3425

but yeah, install the phenom, reset cmos (make sure its done right), try 1 stick of ram and the gt210, then try the gt210 and the other stick of ram...build it up from there and find out why it wasnt booting in the first place.

Yeah so my friend was a bit dumb to pick the wrong CPU, but with the Phenom it doesn't work either; the fans only spin for like a sec.

follow the no post, it could be ram, graphics card, power supply, i think over time ive had atleast 1 of every problem.

hes got a nice rig a phenom and xfx 6870 was my first dream rig which i never got round to building....

if you have to rebuild the whole rig, i highly doubt the cpu itself is dead unless he bent a pin or something.

Alright so we put the Phenom back in with only one RAM module and now it works :D:D:D. Will update to see if it was indeed the RAM.

The problem wasn't the ram. We put in the three sticks and it booted into the bios and when we put one stick into the last ram slot it still booted. No idea why it wouldn't boot with the same configuration the first time (I wasn't there when he tried)
