Shocking. it's not cheap to make, MSRP of a single titan is $999 and combining them isn't free. True it shouldn't add like $1000 but its a card for measuring e-peen, and nvidia just want to say they've got the fastest card.

It's pretty insane though... Gosh, I can't wait to see how it performs at 4k.

Yeah it's pointless for most people, I'll have 4k in 3 years probably. 12GB of RAM is CRAZY! Is there any benefit to having that much RAM on a card?

Will it have a GK110 GPU?

 

If I could afford it I would buy one and watercool it.

Of course it's a dual GK110, what else would it be?

It's 12 total but only 6 is usable

it will perform the same at 4k as 2 titans that are slightly under clocked. There is no voodoo magic in a dual GPU card.

People complain about the price tag. realise that this is NOT a mid range card. It is the cream of the crop from Nvidia. It's a brand new card. A brand new FLAGSHIP card. What you're getting is two of their most advanced cores, 12GB or vRam on 1 PCB. that in itself is a feat.

 

Is your average gamer going to buy this? Probably not. Nvidia adverted it for productivity even. This is meant to be a work station card.

 

I think the price is reasonable. (within error) Do you even know how much it costs to put these things on 1 PCB?

That's a sheer load of ignorance right there. It's not like it costed nothing for them to develop.

 

A single R7970 costed $350, so why did the R7990 cost $1000?

 

Why do ROG MARS and ROG ARES cards cost so much?

In sli you have 6 available yeah but sli turned off you have 12GB. Although I'm not really sure how you can do this with a single sli card, but with two seperate cards you just needed a 2nd monitor connected to your 2nd card and move your app to your 2nd monitor to use that gpu.

Never said you a gpu gets 12GB if sli is turned off. If you just have two files each taking 6GB of vram, move one to the other gpu thats what I'm trying to say so you practically still have 12GB of vram available but at the cost of sli performance. Same thing if you run 2 games each on a different gpu.
