AMD to intel swap - Drivers?

Hey all,

So I think I'm the only person in the world switching from AMD to intel over the next few months.

Going from a 2700X to a 10900K, and a 2070 Super to a 3090. I'll be using the same boot drive, and thus the same Windows install with all of my drives just plugged into the new motherboard.

Do I need to uninstall any AMD software (chipset drivers, sound drivers for the old motherboard etc), before making the swap to the new system, or should it just ignore the AMD/B450 stuff it doesn't need and look for the intel/Z490 it does need?

Cheers,

Rhys

5th gen bioses for b450 are comming in january, so you could do a drop in replacement then.

as for drives, you just need to look at the chipsetdrivers, which iirc you can DDU.

System's 90% built (with the intel processor) and awaiting the 3090 to be put into it, and then I'll immediately be putting my old drives in, so I'm past getting an AMD processor.

Ahh okay - I'll check that out! thank you!

Removing the drivers is defo a good idea, I'd recommend a full fresh install of Windows if you don't mind reinstalling everything though, it's nice to start with a clean, well running install.

I agree - but damn I have so much on this install that I wouldn't remember what is even on there, as well as the fact that I do a lot of Flight Simulation on Prepar3d, and the amount of add-ons I have installed on my secondary drives (but linked through to the P3D install on my main windows drive) is unreal. Not feeling having to re-link all of that back up for the rest of time. But I totally agree with your comment and thank you for the advice.

Besides I think my install of Windows is fairly uncluttered. I tend to uninstall everything except for what I know I need, which gives me a nice streamlined install.
