I have a samsung laptop with 16GB ram and a core i7. i bought it two years ago about

last night i was unsuccessful in locating the audio jack in the dark and accidentally plugged in the headphone cable from my desktop speakers into a live USB port on my laptop

now my computer won't POST but it will turn itself on and then back off like I short circuited the whole thing

power cable is firmly plugged in and there is an active light on the charging brick that shows it's working

Do I have any hope for this computer? Is it something I can fix myself at home?

i hope i provided enough details. will add more if questions come up.

Howdy and welcome :)

Tragedy that wasn’t on video.  You could have paid for a new computer from the viral proceeds.  things happen in the dark.

It sounds like you shorted something which is to say melted something somewhere.  Hope? Maybe.  It might be repairable.  The damaged part has to be found and replaced.  That’s a specialist job though.  It would need to go to a repair shop for sure and have whatever part is broken desoldered off and replaced. If you’re lucky it’s the USB port itself or there was some fuse you blew when you shorted the thing and that simply has to be replaced.  There are videos of people doing this kind of work on game consoles online.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
