1080 or 2070

Nigochimaru

Hello guys so my friend just recently got the new 3080 before he had the 2070 so as my friend he reached out to me and asked if I wanted the 2070 currently I have the rog Strix 1080 but he was saying we could trade and I give him the 1080 so I could have the 2070 because he just wants to build a spare PC just in case and he said he doesn’t really need a 2070 in it but I can Just give him the 1080 to put in it and I get the 2070. So I was wondering if it’s really worth it or if I should just stick with my 1080 it cost me nothing to trade so just wanted some smart people’s opinions.

2070. Similar perf, should be better in DX12/Vulkan, has RTX features and an improved NVENC encoder, and the same amount of VRAM.

Isn't one advertised as more powerful and costs more?

Or are they almost identical?

In other words, go with which ever is more powerful.

2070 slightly faster, more features, and will get driver optimizations longer than the 1080

Seems like he's better of doing the swap, as long he knows he can trust the person if it's being done through the post or something.

Well he says its his friend. I've done similar things in the past with friends. No indication so far of foul play.

Me too.

However, and especially in today's world, people will say "my friend" and it's actually somebody they only know online and have never met the person.

Not saying that's the OP situation, but it does happen.

I mean, if it were like that how does he even know this friend has a 3080 at all and isn't trying to con his 1080 out of him?

I'm sure it's all moot, as they probably live near each other, I'm just saying it can happen.

True, not a bad idea to be cautious.

My idiot friend sold his 2080 for $300 before the launch, thinking he'd be able to score one.

I told him if I manage to get a 3080 first, I'd let him use my 5700 XT until he can get a replacement, lol.
