Fake Intel CPUs? I9 Extreme and Xeon Gold

Came across someone selling I9-7980XE that does not have any identification on the actual heat shield.  Has original box though.  He also has Xeon Gold 6138 that has the box but on the box there is a sticker that says "FRAUD, PLATE & BOARD" with a bar code and below it says "DON'T MATCH" with another bar code.  It seems too suspicious to be real.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Am I missing something?

Are you asking if the thing that says it's a scam is a scam?

the only way to find out is to test it.

probably some engineering sample.

Lets use our crystal ball to figure out what random CPU you got in that box. Why not just test it rather than making a post about the scam you likely just bought into.

def something not right, at first i thought someone may have just lapped the i9 but that doesnt have the marks of it being lapped.

the Gold Xeon, probably was returned to a shop with a different CPU inside it.

I doubt its an engineering sample. As Jayztwocents has mentioned, Intel Engineering Samples are usually in small unmarked boxes that are even smaller than the retail packaging boxes. He made a video about it when he was comparing the quality difference between Intel's ES boxes vs AMD's.

I was asking if anyone had ever seen a CPU without any identification on the heat spreader.

Also, the meaning of the sticker on the Xeon box.  Literally says fraud on it so it raises suspicion to me but I don't know everything.

Yes. Blank heatspreaders are all over Aliexpress. Here's a fake 7980XE I was sold. (The pics in the eBay page were different than what I received). They are usually purchased as blanks then laser etched w/ fake names.

Or in the case of my actual build, I de-lid the CPU and bought one that was machined perfectly flat vs. ruining the real IHS by lapping should I decide to sell later.

if it's super cheap and the seller give warranty, why not.
