Is my laptop still capable of modern day games?

Hey everyone,

3-4 years ago I bought an MSI GS72 Stealth Pro.

Can it still play modern games?

Here are the specs:

CPU: i7 6700HQ

RAM: 16GB 2400 MHz DDR4

GPU: 970m

Storage: 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD

I have a desktop that is much better with an i7 8700K & 2080 Ti but I’m wondering if it’s worth installing modern games on my laptop?

CPU: i7 8700K (5.1 GHz OC). AIO: EVGA CLC 280 280mmGPUEVGA XC2 Ultra 2080Ti. PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular. MB: MSI MEG Z390 ACE. RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB (3600 MHz OC). STORAGE: 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe, 2TB Samsung 860 EVO, 1TB Samsung 860 Evo, 1TB Samsung 860 QVO, 2TB Firecuda 7200rpm SSHD, 1TB WD Blue. CASE: NZXT H510 Elite. FANS: Corsair LL120 RGB 120mm x4. MONITOR: MSI Optix MAG271CQR 2560x1440 144hz. Headset: Steelseries Arctis 5 Gaming Headset. Keyboard: Razer Cynosa Chroma. Mouse: Razer Basilisk Ultimate (Wireless) Webcam: Logitech C922x Pro Stream Webcam.

indeed.

6700hq is still a strong cpu and a 970m is also a pretty strong mobile gpu.

dont expect games like warzone on ultra settings but in general its still a relevant laptop

You've got to temper your expectations a bit, but it will probably still play most newer games if you finagle the settings a little. Are there any games in particular that you're wanting to know about?

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

Well the games I’ve been playing on my desktop lately are Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, and Kerbal Space Program. I plan on playing AC: Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 when they come out.

I just don’t want to go through all the time and effort of installing all my games on it only for it to not be able to handle them and having to go buy a new laptop.

What kind of games?

I think it's still very capable

Mostly Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, and Red Dead Redemption 2. As well as Cyberpunk 2077 and AC: Valhalla when they come out in November.

I hear that on the second part.

I don't have any experience with any of those titles myself, but I've seen people playing many of those games on much lower end hardware with success.

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

ACO maybe in medium, from what i saw online, metro brings 9900k 2080tis systems to their knees and i didnt play it myself so idk what to tell you. as long as you have 16gb of ram rdr2 should run good on medium too and cyberpunk we cant really know since we dont have the game to benchmark it with hardware

I wouldn’t quite say Metro Exodus brings them to their knees. When I play on my desktop with an 8700K & 2080 Ti I usually get around 90fps with ultra settings & Ray Tracing enabled.

Is RDR2 more of a RAM intensive game?
