Will the focusrite scarlett solo be loud enough for 80 ohm headphones?

displayname2

I’m looking to upgrade to headphones that could last me a long time and I've been looking at the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm (those are probably the ones I'm going to go with). I would also need to buy an amp so my question is does the focusrite solo 3rd gen drive them good/loud enough? And would I be getting the best possible quality for my headphones? (I would be buying that so if I wanted to get an xlr mic in the future I could(currently using a USB mic)), or would it be better to just buy an amp alone(If so please leave me suggestions that are under 200).

Thank you!

Honestly I would reccomemend getting a schitt magni, and using the $100 left over on the Sennheiser x Massdrop hd 8xx, and then just saving the excess, but what you mentioned will work fine

I have a scarlett duo and have been using them everyday with a 50 ohm set of seinhizer hd558's for the past four years. It gets plenty loud enough, with the knobs turned up my windows sound level is only ever at 10-15/100.
Great little device espcailly for a mic, though I have had quite a few driver issues and other issues related the the usb bus that the device is plugged into, fortunately the support staff at focusrite are pretty good.

I would get the UMC202HD rather than the solo if I were you because it has a dedicated headphone amplifier circuit more similar to the 2i2.
The 202HD can certainly power those headphones though I'm unsure about the solo purely because it's not got dedicated headphone controls.

If you're looking for more options or details/recommendations (including for mics) the link in my signature has a bunch of info you might find useful.

No, no it will most definitely not. The amps in most interfaces are only passable. If you care about quality get a dedicated amp (or amp/dac combo if you need that functionality).

I would do what Brok3n suggests and get a separate interface and amp.  These are all good amp choices in your price range: Schiit Magni Heresy, JDS Labs Atom, Topping A50, Geshelli Archel, iFi Zen DAC.

I disagree, the amps in most interfaces are far better than passable but they suffer from being too clinical, they're designed for exact amplification with no colouring of the sound which can make them seem less 'musical' but as far as accuracy of the amplification goes most interfaces with dedicated headphone amplifiers do a damn good job.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
