Patriot Memory PV38G213C1K (8 GB, DDR3 RAM, 2133 MHz) I got 2 8gb kits from a friend.

what's the latest compatible Intel chipset I haven't followed Intel since the ryzen hype. But I figure id build a rig using a Asus tuff armoured mobo if there's one available.

some 1151 systems support it(well kinda, it wants ddr3l)

1150 was the last with full support for ddr3.

Id just sell the ram and not build a old system these days

You want a mainboard with 4 slots where you can utilise the ram to its settings. Lucky for you it runs 2133 at 1.5v, with no need to increase voltages.

Latest socket (Intel) that allows for ddr3 was lga 1151 (the old one) but I don't know if there's any mainboard exceeding ddr3 1600. On lga 1150 you can get Z87/Z97 mainboards which would allow to go beyond ddr3 1600.

On the other hand, you could set up a media-pc based on fm2, the apus love this ddr3 memory.

But on h/q it wouldn't get above ddr3 1600, and gen 7 is socket 1155, on the desktop.

I don't use Intel as a main pc but I'm building rigs while I have access to large amounts of used parts without any cost perse. Some might have a price depending on value.

Yes, it's gen 7 lga 1155, you've asked for the latest chipset supporting your ddr3-2133.

Err, what 5600x? for z87/z97 you'll need a haswell, gen 4, or for example the i5 5675C.

Haswell, Z87/Z97 chipset, and those chipsets only work with the 4th generation chips.

Which wouldn't make it worth it just to salvage DDR3 ram.

That doesn't make them go away. The decision if it does makes sense is on TS only.
