Does AMD have any GPUs that can match the 2080 Ti?

I saw the Radeon VII was pretty expensive and AMD products usually provide better price for performance so I’m wondering if maybe that card or any AMD cards can rival the 2080 Ti?

not as of yet, the radeon vii is just expensive due to being end of life already >.>

edit: plus it has a large amount of overly expensive hbm ram, which has prevented the price from dropping too far

So then just curious..is HBM ram better than GDDR6 vram? Or is that an apples to oranges comparison?

Titan RTX is the proper king. AMD's beast is probably still in their labs

 

Radeon VII can't even beat the older (than both itself and of course the 2080ti) 1080ti all that convincingly at a even higher price, so it doesn't count either. Also there are no custom models and availability... Far from the 1080Ti did that's for sure.

I can’t imagine it will be too cheap though. Like under $800 seems like it would be impossible for them to do and still make a profit.

Do you think it will be good enough and cheap enough to be worth it for someone to replace their 2080 Ti with whatever it is?

big navi will beat it, but nvidia's next gen will also beat it, since both are out soon tm, i still expect nvidia to have the edge.

But will it beat it by enough for it to be worth it for people like myself to replace our 2080 Tis?

 

Or will it be like how the 9900K & 9700K came out and beat the 8700K but it’s not really worth paying all that money to upgrade an 8700K to a 9900K for a 5% performance increase?

the 2080 ti is what i consider to be a 1440p/144hz or 4k/85hz card, at this point it's need based or the fastest card, and in both of those scenarios i'd bet on the 3080 ti  (expected +30% over 2080 ti) over whatever amd has/will offer, they have alot of ground to make up, but i'm sure they can be competitive in pricing. It'll also likely be HBM2 so it's probably not gonna be any cheaper than the 2080 ti, i'm actually expecting 1500usd.

Well I have a 2080 Ti & a 1440p 144 hz monitor (MSI Optix MAG271CQR) and even with my 2080 Ti & overclocked 8700K I still don’t get 144 FPS in some of the games I play.

 

But is there any real noticeable difference between say 100 FPS and 144 FPS?

From what I hear in hush-hush circles, the 5800 XT should be somewhere between 2080 and 2080 Super for performance, and the 5900 XT should be competitive with the 2080 TI.

i switch between 98 for "sightseeing" games and 144hz for competitive games, sometimes going down to 1440p windowed so i dont completely choke the card out. In games like poe, warframe, destiny 2, there's an immediate, noticeable diff between 98 and 144, but i don't think 98->144 it's worth it for the 50% horsepower required for single-player games (though i'll try 144 on cyberpunk, likely sticking with 98, and mhw only runs on 1440p/98 while looking nice, with dips of course.

 

I still have RDR2, MHW and ACOD has the three games that are exceptions for being unoptimized and won't blame it on hardware as much.

Another game that I don’t get 144 FPS is the Resident Evil 2 remake.

 

Often I see its at like 112-115 FPS.

That is correct. It will be around the same performance, not exceeding it. Though it will be significantly cheaper. (probly around $800 MSRP)

Ah ok, well I mean I already bought an XC2 Ultra 2080 Ti so a cheaper card with similar performance doesn’t seem worth it at all. Although it should be great for people who don’t already have a 2080 Ti so they can get similar performance at a lower price point.

Replacing 2080Ti is definitely not going to happen, it's more likely to compete with the 2070S/2080/2080S in sales. I dont see it beat the 2080ti in performance and Nvidia can always slash prices shall they find it necessary. Plenty of room for that on the 2080ti

Yeah the price is definitely insane.

 

I was kind of pissed this morning when I got an email from Newegg about a “24 hour Blitz Sale” where they were offering a 2080 TI Strix for $999 considering I just paid $1299 for my XC2 Ultra only a month ago.

I just ordered myself XFX Radeon vii for 550£, I would pay 800 if I had to, because nvidia drivers are pain on linux what I use as my main OS.

Nvidia are ahead of AMD in the GPU race, but usually do end up as better value propositions, not to be mixed up with coming off as lesser due to being cheaper, cards like RX 5700 and the older RX 570 are beasts at the price.

every now and then you can pick one up at a decent price, and for certain applications that card has beastly performance due to it's large amount of ram which has tonnes of memory bandwidth. The problem I see with the radeon vii was its relative performance per dollar in terms of gaming at launch, especially if you either don't undervolt it or get a poor sample that wont undervolt worth a damn.

 

edit: from what I hear it's a great card for running a hackintosh as well
